Paddington, based on author Michael Bond's marmalade-loving bear, has given Studio Canal its biggest ever opening in the UK with a weekend total of $8, 031, 207 (£5,112,425 ) from 520 sites. Writer-director Paul King's well-reviewed family film also boasted a stellar per screen average of $15,563 (£9889).
