A brutal heatwave has claimed over 750 lives in India, mostly in two southeastern states, the Hindustan Times reported.

The death toll in the state of Andhra Pradesh reached 551 on Tuesday – with the district of Guntur recording 104 deaths alone. At least 213 people died in the state of Telangana.

The highest maximum temperature recorded on Monday was 117 degrees Fahrenheit in the state of Odisha, the director of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) told CNN.

The IMD issued "red box" warnings for three states — Odisha, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh — for May 26 and predicted that a severe heat wave would continue in these states for the next few days.

A "red box" warning indicates temperatures inching upwards of 113 degrees Fahrenheit – leading to higher chances of heatstroke, dehydration and fatalities, the Hindustan Times reported.

The country's capital of Delhi and some other states would continue to face sweltering conditions until the end of May, according to the IMD.

On Tuesday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 113 degrees Fahrenheit.

This has been the worst heat wave in India since 2010, when at least 250 people died, Scroll.in reported. The city of Ahmedabad, in the state of Gujarat, is the only one in India to have an operational heat alert system. Similar systems exist in France, UK and Australia, according to Scroll.in.

Around 75 million households in India do not have access to electricity, according to a 2014 report to the prime minister.

A monsoon, expected to hit India's coastline on May 31, will bring respite from the heat, officials said.

Could Project Cars be one of the first Nintendo NX games?

Things aren't looking good for the Wii U version of Project Cars, with developer Slightly Mad Studios confirming that it's struggling to get the game working on Nintendo's console."Ok I'll come clean. At the moment we're running at about 23fps on the Wii U," said studio head Ian Bell on the Project Cars forum."Honestly, unless we really cut the looks back I think we're looking to Nintendo's next console," he added, confirming that the 23fps limit the team were currently hitting was at 720p.The waiting gameVery little is known about Nintendo's next console, which currently goes by the codename 'NX'. Nintendo boss Iwata has confirmed we won't be hearing about it until next year, but it doesn't seem like Bell has heard the news - unless he knows something we don't."We're awaiting/hoping for more of a hardware announcement at E3," he said. "We could reach a fairly solid 30fps but it might take a hell of a lot of work," he added. "On the other hand, about halfway through us finishing, Nintendo might announce a new console (I have zero knowledge on this BTW but I've heard 'rumours'). Our work might just be the best thing that ever hit that new console in the driving sim genre."Nintendo will release five smartphone games by 2017

Early view: Sony Xperia Z3+ vs Sony Xperia Z3

Sony Xperia Z3+ vs Sony Xperia Z3We all expected to see the Xperia Z4 sooner rather than later, so it's quite a shock Sony has decided to share with us the Xperia Z3+ right after announcing the Xperia Z4 in Japan. It's looking to be the same phone though, but the specs haven't jumped up much from the handset it's replacing, suggesting the title of Xperia Z3+ is a little more appropriate. We've put the Xperia Z3+ details side by side with the Xperia Z3 to see how it checks out to help you work out whether it's worth your money – let's take a look.Sony Xperia Z3+ vs Sony Xperia Z3: DesignSony has kept its iconic glass back design on the Xperia Z3+, if you've held a recent Xperia phone you won't be shocked by the design choices here, but this time around it's slightly different in size. The Xperia Z3+ shares the same height and width dimensions of the Xperia Z3 at 146mm x 72mm but it's thinner this time around at 6.9mm opposed to 7.3mm. The Xperia Z3 also weighed in at 152g whilst the new handset comes in quite a bit lighter at 144g. Hopefully that makes it that little bit easier to hold in the hand.Again Sony has opted for IP68 waterproof and dust proofing design, it's a good touch and means you can be using your phone in the bath without any worry of it getting damaged.Thankfully the annoying flap over the USB port has been ditched on the Xperia Z3+, with the port now waterproofed making charging much easier.Sony offered the Xperia Z3 in Black, White, Copper, Silver Green and Purple whilst the Xperia Z3+ is dropping the Purple option and switching out Silver Green for Ice Green.Sony Xperia Z3+ vs Sony Xperia Z3: DisplaySony has opted to keep the same screen on the Xperia Z3+ by using the same 5.2-inch Full HD 1080p IPS display. That equals a pixel resolution of 1920 x 1080 with 424ppi.All of Sony's patented tech is at play here with TRILUMINOS technology on board. We can't really see much improvement in the screen department but that's not necessarily a bad thing - it worked well on the Xperia Z3 so there are no real complaints in that department.Sony Xperia Z3+ vs Sony Xperia Z3: PowerUnder the hood in the Xperia Z3 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz whilst the Xperia Z3+ has taken an upgrade to the octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor. This time around it's 64bit, but the Xperia Z3+ boasts the same amount of RAM as the Xperia Z3 with 3GB of RAM.Storage wise the Xperia Z3 had two options of 16GB and 32GB whilst the new phone has opted to drop the smaller option and only offer 32GB with microSD support up to 128GB.Sony Xperia Z3+ vs Sony Xperia Z3: BatterySony's taken a hit on the battery in order to make the Xperia Z3+ that little bit thinner. On the Xperia Z3 there was a 3,100mAh cell whilst the new phone comes with a 2,900mAh offering. The Xperia Z3 didn't have standout battery life so it's a risky move for Sony to drop the battery size down, we can only hope the phones been better optimised to save on juice. All the same connectivity options are here including LTE 4G. It'll also launch with Android 5.0 Lollipop on board, something the Xpeira Z3 can now be upgraded to but doesn't come right out of the box. You'll still have Sony's UI plastered all over it though – I'd recommend having a look through the software section of our Xperia Z3 review to get a proper idea of what the Sony UI looks like, it's quite different to stock Android.Sony Xperia Z3+ vs Sony Xperia Z3: CameraSony doesn't seem to have changed all that much in the camera department this time, just more incremental changes yet again. The same 20.7MP sensor with Exmor RS image is on the rear with HDR for photos and videos making a comeback as well as SteadyShot with Intelligent Active Mode and Superior Auto also featuring. On the front things have changed a bit. The Xperia Z3 only had a 2.2MP sensor capable of 1080p video recording whilst the Xperia Z3+ has a 5MP camera with a wider field of view. Sony Xperia Z3+ vs Sony Xperia Z3: PriceThe Sony Xperia Z3 is widely available and it's easy to find for as cheap as £350 ($538, AUS690) - significantly less than its launch price.Although Sony hasn't announced any pricing just yet for the Xperia Z3+ we can expect it to be a flagship price closer to the £500 mark so it'll burn a bit of a bigger hole in your wallet. As for availability you're going to have to wait until later this summer for the Xperia Z3+ as Sony hasn't shared exact details for each yet.Early verdictSo far the Xperia Z3+ is looking like a standard Sony style update - it's increasing a few details around the edges for an incremental improvement but there aren't any really impressive steps forward. When written down on paper there doesn't seem to be much to different to the Xperia Z3+ with only a few changes to the design, some extra camera modes and a slightly upgraded processor but it's likely to ask for a much bigger chunk of money and some won't see it as worth it.With the Xperia Z3 so cheap now it's difficult to think of a market who would really be craving the Xperia Z3+ but if you're looking for the top of the range Sony product, this is definitely it. Fingers crossed for a real jump ahead with the official Xperia Z4 though. Why not read our review of the Xperia Z3 in full?

Roku rolls out its Summer update

The new Roku software update has begun rolling out this week and it's going to be a big one for the wee streamers. With these updates Roku is aiming to become the one-stop-shop for all your streamed entertainment. That isn't going to happen straight away, but with some big names, like Netflix, signed up right from the off it could well be gathering pace. The two new features are Roku Search and Roku Feed. The first, the Search, will allow you to search for either a film, TV show, actor or director and will present the results showing where you can catch the results across the participating channels. From the outset this feature will encompass the entertainment offerings from Netflix, Snagfilms and Popcornflix, but Roku is hopeful it's going to be adding to this short list soon. The new Roko Feed means you can keep track of when and where they can find upcoming entertainment. Right now it's just looking at the movie side of things, letting you tag films currently enjoying their time in the cinema spotlight, and then the Roku box will fire reminders at you when they appear on the system. It will then provide you with the info about which channel the movie can be watched on and how much that will tax will your wallet too.Hard(ware) timesAs well as introducing new features to the existing boxes of streaming delights, Roku is also releasing updated hardware too.The new Roku 2 box is set to get a boost to its internals to match the performance and responsiveness of the current Roku 3. While that is certainly good news for the new £70/ $70 streaming box, we weren't hugely taken by the speed of the Roku 3 when we reviewed it.The difference between the two is you're getting a slightly stripped back remote, losing the audio jack for private viewing and the gaming buttons too. There will also be updates to the existing iOS and Android Roku Mobile Apps to bring them in line with the new Roku Search and Roku Feed features too.

Watch this robot learn through trial and error, just like a human

A team of researchers at the University of California has put together a robot that can learn how to do tasks through trial and error. The development is a key milestone in the field of artificial intelligence. The algorithms allow the robot to build its knowledge slowly over time like humans do, rather than being pre-programmed from their moment of creation. The resulting 'neural nets' were inspired by the neural circuitry of the brain. "The key is that when a robot is faced with something new, we won't have to reprogram it," said Pieter Abbeel, who helped develop the technique. "The exact same software, which encodes how the robot can learn, was used to allow the robot to learn all the different tasks we gave it."YouTube : www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeVppkoloXsIn a series of experiments, a robot named BRETT (Berkeley Robot for the Elimination of Tedious Tasks) was given a series of motor assignments, like putting blocks through matching openings or stacking Lego blocks. As it got closer to the solution, the robot was "rewarded" with points allocated by the algorithm. "We still have a long way to go before our robots can learn to clean a house or sort laundry," said Abbeel, "but our initial results indicate that these kinds of deep learning techniques can have a transformative effect in terms of enabling robots to learn complex tasks entirely from scratch."

Android M could make your device run faster and longer

Google is apparently planning to unveil Android M at its IO 2015 event later this week, and new rumours suggest that the latest mobile operating system will focus on improving battery life and RAM usage.According to rumours reported by Android Police, Android M (also known internally at Google as Macadamia Nut Cookie), will concentrate heavily on battery performance – great news for those of us who struggle to get through a single day between charges.Android M will apparently achieve this by cutting the number of location check ins and reducing background tasks and activity when the phone is unplugged and the screen is off.Battery life saverSome of these features have been included in phone manufacturers' various battery saving modes, but it's good to see them implemented into the core Android experience.Being given such low level access could help the battery saving modes in Android M perform much better than existing solutions, so hopefully we'll see some real improvements in battery life for devices that run on Macadamia Nut Cookie.Android M will also apparently use less RAM, or at least manage its RAM usage better. RAM management isn't the most sexy of features, but it can have fantastic implications for devices as less RAM usage means longer battery life.By carefully optimising how much RAM Android M uses, it could also mean it runs a lot faster and smoother – and even older devices would benefit.According to the same rumours the final release of Android M will be August 2015, with app developers getting a developer preview just before, to make sure their programs run smoothly. Will Android M Nexus devices get a two-year update guarantee?

The Revit #95 motorcycle makes your iPhone the display

While windscreen mounts have long allowed car drivers to use their smartphones as driving displays, attempting the same on a motorcycle has generally been considered folly. But a new concept bike from Dutch company Revit actually puts the phone front and centre, using an iPhone as a mounted instrument display for its Revit #95 bike.Based on KTM's 950 Super Enduro motorcycle, the Revit #95 completely replaces traditional instruments, instead including a specially mounted bracket for your iPhone, which can display your key information in real time using a number of "dash" apps.Revving the conceptBeing a concept bike, there are a few other high-tech developments, like an all-aluminium gas tank and the inclusion of a Christini All Wheel Drive system, which allows the bike to shift power to the front wheel should the rear tyre lose 80 percent traction or more.Given the iPhone's many apps and on board navigation, it was only going to be a matter of time before someone attached it to a motorcycle. That said, while an iPhone display looks cool, it's doubtful that motorcycle manufacturers will be rushing to follow this trend just yet.Via: GizmagNeed some new apps? Taco Bell Is Going Natural, Kind Of

The chain that unleashed the Doritos flavored taco will banish things like artificial coloring and high-fructose corn syrup from much of its menu.

instagram.com

Taco Bell has done many amazing things. It added Doritos flavor to its taco shells. It folded a syrupy breakfast taco into a waffle shell, and later a biscuit. It wrapped a burrito inside a quesadilla and dubbed it the Quesarito. Then it used Cap'N Crunch Berries cereal to create a rainbow-colored donut hole. If there was a word to describe such flavor blasted franken-foods, "natural" wouldn't be one of them.

So as other fast food chains made questionable commitments to making their menus healthier and removing unpronounceable ingredients from their food, you might have thought that Taco Bell would hold out, embrace its fast food roots, and admit that it doesn't give a crap about your diet. Because you never ate a Quesarito for your health.

But you'd be wrong.

Taco Bell today announced a new set of standards for ingredients that will remove artificial colors, flavors, added trans fats, high fructose corn syrup, or "unsustainable" palm oil in its food by the end of 2015. "In all cases, they will be replaced with natural alternatives," the company said in a release. That's right, natural.

Taco Bell "is committed to being a brand that people can truly champion and trust," CEO Brian Niccol told News. While some of the replacement ingredients will cost more, the chain is not increasing menu prices.

But there are some very significant exceptions. Most importantly, the changes won't affect beverages and co-branded items, so while artificial colors may be out of most foods, Doritos Locos Tacos and Cap'N Crunch donut holes will be keeping Taco Bell's menus bright.

instagram.com

Taco Bell joins other fast food giants that have recently tried to jump about the natural food bandwagon by cleaning up their ingredients. Subway has removed medium chain triglycerides from its chicken and azodicarbonamide from its breads. In May, Panera Bread released a list of "unacceptable" ingredients, what it calls a "No No List," that will be removed from menus by the end of 2016.

Not all of the banned ingredients are bad for health, even if they sound like they are. John Coupland, professor of food science at Penn State, said "I don't think it's likely having an impact on the nutritional quality of the food you're eating." He said while there's an increasing amount of chemophobia today, artificial ingredients aren't categorically worse, or better, for health than natural ingredients.

Liz Matthews, Taco Bell's Chief Food Innovation Officer, steered clear of arguing about the health impact of the new ingredient standards. "There are things that are good and things that are bad, and that's not for us to debate," she said. "We're just here to listen to our customers and they want less in their food and they want simpler ingredients and that's what we're doing."

Niccol and Matthews said Taco Bell has stealthily been making healthy improvements to its menu for 10 years, for example by reducing sodium, but hasn't been marketing it.

For now, Taco Bell doesn't have any plans to remove antibiotics from meat, as chains like McDonald's and Chick-fil-A have recently committed to do, or to go GMO free like Chipotle.

"We want to make sure the replacements aren't sacrificing anything for our customers, because we know they come to us for the experience and bold flavors," said Matthews. That's the priority, naturally.

These speeds are not too far off from the company's high-end 240GB SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD ($140, £91, AU$180), which has a 550MB/s read speed and a 520MB/s write speed. Even though SanDisk did not announce specific pricing, the company told TechRadar that the drives features a lower total cost of ownership compared to current solid state drives (SSD), and that the Z400s will be priced comparable to hard disk drives (HDD). For comparison, a 250GB Western Digital 2.5-inch hard drive currently retails for $47 (£30, AU$60) on Amazon while a 256GB SSD from rival Samsung costs around $100 (£65, AU$128). Laptop useSanDisk says that the Z400s uses less power than hard drives, with up to 20 times lower power consumption. The Z400s runs on as little as 30mW of power. When used in a mainstream computing laptop, this means that the laptop can run longer on battery power. "By designing systems with the new SanDisk Z400s SSD, PC OEMs can deliver products that are 5x more reliable and 20x faster than traditional hard drives, translating into fewer returns, lower total cost of ownership and increased overall customer satisfaction," said SanDisk.Enterprise useFor embedded applications, SanDisk is positioning the Z400s for use in automotive black boxes, security systems and point-of-sales machines. Because solid state drives feature fast boot times, increased reliability and durability compared to hard drives, the Z400s should be a good fit for these types of solutions. The fast boot times will help businesses stay productive and retain customers if they need to restart their POS machines. "Research shows that customers become frustrated after 2.5 minutes if there is no progress in a checkout line; after five minutes, one out of three customers will abandon the line altogether," SanDisk said of the benefit of transitioning to solid state storage.SanDisk is currently sampling the drives to customers. The PC Gamer: Consoles held The Witcher 3's graphics back, but PC gaming is far from cursed

IntroductionThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has finally seen its long-awaited release, and by all accounts, happiness should reign. Instead, its launch has been soured by one accursed word - downgrade. In a nutshell, the final game doesn't look as good as players were expecting after early footage, and to add insult to injury, it's because while the first two games were developed for the PC - the second one being a graphical showpiece - The Witcher 3 came to PC, PS4 and Xbox One simultaneously.Console-ing wordsEven CD Projekt has agreed, had this not been the case it could have looked a lot prettier and taken advantage of more technology. That said, they've also commented that without console versions, there wouldn't be the budget for the game at all.Tesco direct goes PS4 deal crazy with May's Witcher 3 bundle bargainsIt's an unfortunate situation all round, not least because The Witcher 3 still looks amazing. Stunning, actually. It's a game of beautiful animation and loving detail, of blood-red sunsets and distant glimpses at far off hills. Pixel-for-pixel it looks similar to the previous game, released in 2011, but that was a much more restricted experience in far smaller zones.Resources can only be spread so far, financially or system based, and the last game still looks stunning. Not many can hold onto their looks for four years, especially when up against the might of companies like EA with Dragon Age Inquisition. To hear some people talk, you'd think that The Witcher 3 was using low-resolution pixel art. No, no, no. It's top-tier graphics, all the way down.Just hearing that things could have been better though really spoils the experience. Suddenly every texture seems blocky, every clipped hair becomes a missed opportunity. Flat grass effects that would have gone unnoticed or even admired with a polite "Oooh" suddenly feel retrograde. Insulting, even. What is this feeble insult placed before our eyes? We were promised a literal portal into another world, goshdarnit!Frame hateThe Witcher of course isn't the only victim of this - a more deserved one would be Dark Souls 2, where lighting and graphical fidelity was a late victim of the need for a better framerate. The problem though tends to be less a question of developers trying to deceive the public, and more that development is an inherently messy business.Generally, when we see games years before release - the first shots, the first trailers, the E3 demos - we're actually seeing a construct. A fake, if you will. Games are generally running on a ludicrously powerful PC carefully hidden under the scenes, with the content designed to be a snapshot of what the developer intends to make rather than an actual slice of a game that by definition isn't finished. That often means changes, for good and bad.Bioshock Infinite for instance bears almost no relation to its original demo, a high-octane chase full of reality-warping magic. The mission in the Watch Dogs trailer simply isn't the one players finally encountered in the final game, looking neither half as good, nor being half as interesting in terms of details.YouTube : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_A6Z3gkXlkLoad of bullshotIt's rare though that this is deliberate, unlike other practices like rendering out super high-resolution screenshots and then Photoshopping them on top of that - a practice dubbed 'bullshots' by Penny Arcade. Live demos are intended to be what the game looks like, or at least, to set a level of aspiration on both sides of the screen. Otherwise, they'd just be renders. After the show though, two key factors however often step in - optimisation so the final game actually run well, and whether or not that's possible, and whether or not the tricks used actually work across an entire game rather than simply an individual section. A particular rain shader for instance might look fantastic at night, but godawful on a sunny day, and need a total rewrite. In the case of The Witcher 3 for instance, CD Projekt has discussed having experimented with two rendering systems - one looking better in key areas, yes, but the other looking better across the entire world. It's not surprising that it ultimately went for that one. Decisions like this are quietly made all the time, and we rarely ever even notice. In most cases, there's little reason to care, save that with modern gaming culture's increased push for endless screenshots and videos, and the same images cropping up again and again, we're constantly exposed to these games to the point that by the time they arrive, it's as if we've played them already. On PC, it's particularly irritating when a game fails to use our often mighty machines to the full. Still, we should look at the positives. Aside from the occasional coughed up console port, we're never asked to settle for crap frame-rates or 900p graphics, and tools and mods offer incredible scope for stepping into games where the developers left off - just look at what modders are doing with the creaky old GTA IV, never mind the projects already under way for GTA V.YouTube : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZ0OFPjinXwThe Witcher 3 is already getting the upgrade treatment, with its first PC patch offering some improvements, and later versions promising to allow players to tweak ini files and crank up the data. It's also of course possible to play it in 4K mode right now, provided you have a suitably nuclear powered PC at your disposal. As E3 rolls around for another year though, it's worth remembering exactly what we're seeing - hopes, dreams, and yes, marketing. Things change, but rarely because someone in a suit is cackling at the thought of murdering gamers' hopes and dreams in two years. As with all technology purchases, what really matters is the end result. Have the compromises and cutdowns resulted in something not worth the money? Then that is indeed a problem. When the result is still great though, perhaps it's time to cut everyone a little slack.

Qualcomm and Daimler working to bring wireless charging to your car

One day in the not-too-distant future you'll get in your self-driving car, speak out your destination and put your smartphone down on the arm rest - where it will begin charging automatically.Daimler (owner of Mercedes-Benz) and Qualcomm have announced a new partnership to work towards in-car wireless charging. The companies are also going to develop ideas for charging electric cars without cables. The days of fiddling around with cables and cigarette lighter sockets could soon be over - in fact, your car's built-in systems might eventually be able to charge up your mobile while it's sat in your pocket.Signal boost"It's important that we remain on the cutting edge of technology," said Daimler's Thomas Weber, echoing the thinking of every car manufacturer as the likes of Google and Apple jostle for position. The agreement between Daimler and Qualcomm also covers 3G/4G connectivity inside cars, which will be a key technology for getting software patches, map updates and more straight to a vehicle without a mobile phone. We don't have any details of particular products yet or a timescale on when they might appear but it's encouraging to see car manufacturers getting up to speed with today's technology at long last.Qualcomm's plan to invade your home - and make your light bulbs smarter

Lots of people on Vine are trying to summon a demon

If you've got two pencils, some paper, a cameraphone and no problem with looking ridiculous on the internet, you can take part in the Charlie Charlie Challenge that is currently taking over Vine and Twitter. Once we had chain emails that promised a grizzly end if you didn't forward them on to everyone in your address book, now we have Vine-based Ouija boards. By drawing a grid, writing yes in two corners and no in the other two then chanting "Charlie, Charlie, are you there?" you can find out if Charlie is there or not then post it to Vine. Of course, there are as many "why the hell are you doing this" parody videos as there are legit Charlie Challenges. Religious Twitter has jumped on it as a chance to spread The Word. One Direction fans are using it to find out which band member will marry them. Poor Charlie is run ragged. Quite aside from the fact that we can tell you're just blowing that pencil, pal, I can tell you right now which one of the four remaining members of One Direction is going to marry you: none of them. Or, at a push, Louis. But probably not even him.I guess this is what happens when the UK and the US have a three day weekend at the same time. Innovators: Great tech innovators: Hossein Yassaie

Age: 57Company: Imagination TechnologiesBest known for: Hardware, graphicsQuote: "I believe in and hope for making a real difference. I consider ignorance the biggest danger to the human race's progress."Hossein Yassaie is CEO of Imagination Technologies, and he has been head of the graphics company for quite some time – since 1998, in fact.Born in Iran, he became a UK national at the age of eight, and studied at Birmingham University where he got his PhD and became a Research Fellow. His first steps into the tech industry saw him work at STMicroelectronics and Inmos for the best part of a decade, where he was in charge of digital video and DSP, before he moved to Imagination Technologies in 1992 as CTO.The UK-based graphics giant has seen much success during his tenure as chief exec, and its PowerVR mobile GPUs are used by many of the world's leading device manufacturers, including Apple, Sony, Samsung and LG.Yassaie also kicked off the firm's Pure division when he saw a gap in the digital radio market, and while the initial intention might not have been to shift products to consumers – the first radio was really meant as a demo platform for Pure's DAB chip – success quickly led to a range of DAB radios (like the Evoke), portable wireless speakers, iPhone docks and the like.Under Yassaie Imagination Technologies is also firmly angling itself towards the Internet of Things market, with its MIPS processors boasting high levels of performance efficiency, and Ensigma IP solutions for radio comms slotting in neatly with the frugal power requirements of wearables and IoT-connected hardware.Yassaie is clearly a driven man and in interviews has lamented the fact that Britain no longer has enough giant tech firms like Imagination Technologies and ARM – and we need to get back to grass roots and innovate to breed further success, something Imagination isn't afraid to do.He was also given a knighthood back in 2013 for his services to the tech world. In partnership with Microsoft, powered by the HP Spectre x360

4 Important Values You Will Need When You Coach Millennials

When you become a manager or supervisor, one of your most important roles would be to become a coach. Instead of just administrative or managerial tasks; you are now in charge of motivating and inspiring another employee. Coaching a millennial seems easy enough, until you realize that they are impulsive, impatient, and unruly. Still, they are your company’s greatest assets. A millennial’s drive to succeed and win against all odds is exactly what your business needs in this overly competitive world. But how can you steer them in the right direction? Let these four core values be your guide.   1. True listening They say true listening consists of 90 percent body language and 10 percent words. It requires the listener to observe what the other person is ‘not saying’. That means paying attention to small details such as shoulder shrugs, head tilts, downcast eyes, and neck rubs. Remember: millennials are proud. They want to appear strong and independent. So they won’t be so quick in admitting that they have a problem (especially when it comes to work). For example, an employee apologizes for low performance for the previous month. Don’t just focus on words; listen to his body language. Does he look sad? Is his voice worried? Maybe he’s having personal problems that he’s not telling. Paying attention to non-verbal cues is a priceless skill to have when dealing with any employee. “If you make listening and observation your occupation, you will gain much more than you can by talk.” – Robert Baden-Powell 2. Empathy Don’t confuse sympathy with empathy. The latter is broader and more difficult to put into action. However, it is a necessary skill if you want to successfully relate to others. For example, one of your employees may have trouble dealing with tasks because she is going through a divorce. Don’t just offer a simple ‘I’m sorry to hear that…’ or ‘It’s going to be alright…’. If you want to be an empathetic coach, you need to put yourself in that person’s shoes to help her overcome her problem. It’s more than just offering kind words. Sometimes, you need to wait a while before that person would open up to you, but take the initiative. As coach, it is your responsibility to help employees deal positively with their fears and/or troubles. Listen, then come up with solutions together by seeing the situation through your millennial’s eyes.   3. Trust Millennials want to feel that they are a part of something huge. However, you’re not yet sure whether you want to hand them that big project just yet. Instead of throwing them into open waters, let them gradually swim into shallower parts first; with trust. For example; if you don’t want them to spearhead a client’s website campaign, at least allow them to pitch in ideas. Don’t constantly breathe down their necks, either. Relax, set a deadline, ask for progress, then provide feedback and/or rewards when results are met. When you show that you trust them, millennials are more confident to bring out their best. “The glue that holds all relationships together- including the relationship between the leader and the led is trust, and trust is based on integrity.” – Brian Tracy 4. Flexibility One thing that turns off millennials is lack of freedom. They often hop from one job to another because they are looking for a great career that lets them live out their lives at the same time. So don’t make them feel tied to their desks between 9 to 5. Instead, follow up that trust by being flexible. How? Offer them choices. If you have an active employee for example, direct that energy into a community-based project OR let her try a new skill. Serve various activities. Play up the routine by dishing out new duties from time to time. If your millennial wants to attend another function, compromise so she has time to finish all her tasks, without missing that important event. It’s not easy handling millennials. I should know, I have an office full of them! They are unpredictable, often disorderly, and need frequent feedback. But I cannot imagine a campaign without them. It’s their limitless energy, curiosity, and thirst for knowledge that keeps my company active. So to keep all of us happy, I employ those four core values and insert a bit of fun every now and then. At the end of the day, coaching a bunch of impatient millennials is not only rewarding, it’s an achievement in itself. Have these values helped you? What values would you add to this list?

70,000 shots later, this image is now the world's biggest photo

It may only be the world's 11th tallest mountain, but Europe's Mont Blanc is now the subject of the world's largest photograph.In2White, a photographic project headed-up by Italian photographer Filippo Blengini has usurped the 320 gigapixel panorama of London taken in 2013, which previously held the title, with an image that is 45 gigapixels larger. Capturing the entirety of Mont Blanc, this 365 gigapixel image required 35 hours of continuous shooting to capture the 70,000 pictures that make up the portrait. It took two months of post production to stitch the 14 Photoshop files together, resulting in a total file size of 46 terabytes. Every inch of the mountainNot just a feat in photography, the five international members behind the Mont Blanc image, had to trek for an hour from the nearest structure to a height of 3500 meters above sea level and endure temperatures of minus ten degrees in order to capture the images with a range of Canon DSLRs. There is an interactive image on the In2White website that shows a version of the full panoramic image, which can be can be zoomed in on to see everything from an eagle (kilometers off in the distance) to the construction site of a futuristic €105 million cable car station. Interestingly, the final image is so large that if it were printed at 300dpi, it would be large enough to fill an entire football field.Technically NASA has a bigger 681 megapixel image of the moon, but it was taken by a satellite and it doesn't really fit the biggest image in the world title.Want to make your own gigaphoto? You'll need one (or more) of the world's best DSLR

After his first on-screen appearance as the video-game obsessed Mike Teavee, Fry voiced the main character in Disney's Meet The Robinsons. His list of acting credits remains short — his last was in 2012's Gone alongside Amanda Seyfried — but according to his IMDb page, Fry has recorded several songs for his first EP.

What If Facebook Actually Paid People For Content?

Cannes Winners Analysis: The French Did Well, The Italians Didn’t But Who’s Complaining About This World Cup Of Cinema?

During the past week in Cannes people kept asking me, ‘so who is going to win the Palme d’Or?’  I long ago gave up trying to play that guessing game. Juries do their own thing and it is often unpredictable. But no one was really predicting French director Jacques Audiard’s  Dheepan , about a created family of Sri Lankan immigrants trading one war for another when they come to start a new life in France. 5 Ways Your End Goal Should Enhance The Present

Long-term end goals are important, almost supremely so. They’re the driving force behind a successful life with purposeful direction. Who wouldn’t want that? But, as high as we value the pursuit and attainment of our end goals, they’re only one piece of the success puzzle. While our end goals give our lives purpose, the present moment is what gives our lives meaning. At the end of the day, all we are is a collection of momentary experiences, shared with the important people in our lives. And it’s through those experiences that we derive meaningful memories that become the measuring sticks of our lives. Together, by placing equal focus on the end game and the present moment, they combine to create a life of true success. But, as important as this combination is to our lives, it can be argued that the achievement of our long-term end goals are the most important, because by achieving your goals, you subsequently increase the value of the moment. Vacations and travel get longer, for example, friends become more bountiful, and earnings increase. But again, our end goals are only important if they’re increasing our positive emotions in the present, which results in a feeling of deep meaning. So, if our long-term goals are that important, but a meaningful life is gained through presence in the moment, how can we ensure that our end goals add to the present, and still make us successful in the long-run? Below are five ways you can tell if your end goals are enhancing the present moment, and are therefore worth pursuing.   1. Hard work lets you enjoy relaxation Have you ever tried to veg-out when you’ve had a string of unproductive days? How difficult is it to enjoy your favorite TV show, your favorite book, or your favorite restaurant, when you’ve been continuously unmotivated? Almost impossible, I know. But relaxation, when built into your schedule correctly, is as important as hard work. It gives you a chance to recharge your batteries, recalibrate, and take a breath before jumping into your next project. Most important, it gives you a chance to appreciate how far you’ve come in achieving your goals. If you work hard in pursuing your end goals, it should make your rest and relaxation feel rewarding. After a long, five day week, full of task completion and goal achievement, you deserve the opportunity to enjoy the leisure of the moment. So, ensure that you don’t overwork or underwork yourself as you move in the direction of your goals. The work you put in should serve to increase the value of the time you take off, because you know you deserve it. If the work needed to achieve your goals decreases the value of your leisure time, by over-stress or burnout, it might be time to realign your goals with your life.   2. “True North” gives your presence purpose Long-term end goals give our lives direction. Everything you do, from the day-to-day to your yearly plans, should be moving you toward your goals. It’s this direction, or “True North” as I call it, that actually enhances the value of the present moment. When you know you’re on the right path, and are confidently moving in the direction of your dreams, you’re able to more fully enjoy the present. You know that everything you’re doing – yes, even relaxation, is purposeful in moving yourself toward the achievement of your goals. Your True North, pointing in the direction of your long-term goals, should give each day deep purpose, because, through the compound effects of daily incremental progress, you know you’ll be able to reach your end goals. If your direction isn’t enhancing the present moment, chances are the direction you’re headed isn’t your True North and needs to be adjusted.   3. Step-by-step benefits your day-to-day Speaking of the compound effect, where daily task completions compound to result in the completion of very lofty goals focus on day-to-day processes gives your life meaning. Think about it this way: If you’re in the process of starting a side business, and you have to pick up the phone and make fifty sales calls, the act of making the fifty sales calls in itself has very little meaning. It’s a mundane, tedious task. But, when you know that the fifty sales calls are just a small step in the overall process of achieving your long-term goals, the step becomes incredibly meaningful. You know that through the fifty sales calls, you’ll be able to sign a few clients, which will help your side business generate earnings, which will allow you to eventually quit your job – your ultimate end goal. So, the act of making the fifty phone calls, even in the moment, has deep meaning, because it’s a necessary step on your path to long-term success. If the steps needed to achieve your goals don’t give you meaning in the day-to-day, it could be time to revisit your long-term goals, and more important, the reasoning behind why you want to achieve them. The process should always enhance the present. “How you climb a mountain is more important than reaching the top.” – Yvon Choinard 4. Lofty goals make you feel “alive” If you’re reading this, it’s safe to assume that your long-term goals are lofty. So lofty, perhaps, that you aren’t sure if you can achieve them. Good! All goals should stretch your abilities, otherwise they wouldn’t be worthy goals. If your goals are lofty, then it’s safe to say that they increase your feeling of “aliveness.” Let me explain: When we have lofty goals, we’re trading the feeling of comfortability for the feeling of being alive. You may fail at your goal, you may succeed, or you may fall somewhere in between, but all your momentary triumphs and failures will most surely make you feel alive. If you set your goal high enough, it will be the catalyst that causes you to jump out of bed in the morning, ready to take on the day. In this way, your end goals should directly make you feel alive in the moment, every day. If not, your goals are either too low or don’t resonate with your core self. If so, it’s time to reevaluate.   5. End goals increase the future’s present Finally, and although I’ve been imploring you not to look too far down the line, the achievement of your long-term end goals, if set correctly, will enhance the future value of the present moment. Bear with me: If you’re working for a job you dislike, and your goal is to build a location-independent business, the successful creation of that side business will literally change your life. You’ll have built yourself a lifestyle of freedom, and one that you truly enjoy. Through the achievement of your end goal (or through the process of getting there), the time spent in the present moment becomes that much sweeter. Rather than sitting at your desk for eight hours, you decide to spend the day at a park, the beach, or at a local coffee shop. The value of that time spent, in relation to the time spent doing something you’re obligated to do, is much higher. If your end goal doesn’t look like it’s going to enhance your future’s present, it’s time to shift focus. “Have the end in mind and every day make sure you’re working towards it.” – Ryan Allis It’s important to note that your long-term end goals should be enhancing the moment through each one of these five ways. If they’re lacking in any one of these areas, you need to take a deep look at your end goals and the “why” behind them. Chances are, the goals you set aren’t the ones you truly want to – or should – achieve. If so, set another long-term goal, and test it against the five steps listed above.   If your long-term end goals DO enhance the moment through each one of these five ways, Congratulations! Continue on your path to a successful life, full of purpose and meaning.

Barbet Schroeder On Robert Durst, ‘Amnesia’ & Why He Hasn’t Made A Hollywood Pic In 13 Years – Cannes Q&A

Barbet Schroeder returned to the Cannes Film Festival for Amnesia which played on Tuesday in the Special Screenings section. And while the title sounds like it belongs to the suspense genre Schroeder is known for, Amnesia is quite a departure from the morally ambiguous characters the director has painted throughout his career (notably Claus von Bulow in 1990’s Reversal of Fortune, which earned  Jeremy Irons an Oscar for his portrayal of the leather-loving socialite)…

18 Tips To Make Sweden's Eurovison Entry Fall In Love With You

Måns Zelmerlöw’s song “Heroes” is tipped to win Eurovision and he’s insanely handsome.

Thomas Hanses / EBU

Måns Zelmerlöw is Sweden's Eurovision entry. His song is called "Heroes", and we (like everyone else with two eyes, two ears, and one heart) fell in love with him this week. But we had to know: What would it take for him to fall in love with us? Here's what we learned.

1. Flirt with your eyes. "I don't use pick up lines. I'm very much a flirting-with-your-eyes kind of guy. I make eye contact over the bar and then I walk up and say, 'You look beautiful'."

2. Be honest on Tinder. "Once, I went on a Tinder date and the girl just didn't look like her pictures."

3. At least try to feign an interest in his hobbies. "The problem with this Tinder girl was that she was against everything I like. She hated all of my hobbies. We didn't really click. At all."

4. Be spontaneous. "I was on a first date a couple of weeks ago. It was a Friday night and we decided to go to Paris in the morning. We'd only met briefly once before, but we just decided to go."

5. Make sure you smell good. "I use cologne. Right now, I'm using Calvin Klein Encounter."
