Upstart Production Company Imperative Acquires ‘We Were Liars’

EXCLUSIVE: In competitive bidding, Imperative Entertainment has acquired the bestselling E. Lockhart book We Were Liars. The author has written the feature script. Imperative’s Bradley Thomas, Zak Kadison and Dan Friedkin will produce and production veep Justin Catron will be co-producer. Imperative was formed in March by Thomas, Kadison, Tim Kring and Friedkin, the latter of whom is financing the venture.

Novel is the coming of age story of a 17-year-old girl who survived a horrible accident at her family’s summer home two years ago that she cannot remember. She returns, determined to remember the details of her accident but as the pieces start to come together, she discovers not only the painful truth of that night, but a shocking revelation about herself.
Lockhart’s bestsellers include The Boyfriend List, The Boy Book, The Treasure Map of Boys, and Real Live Boyfriends, and Fly on the Wall. Her novel The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks was a finalist for the National Book Award. It’s the first significant material sale for Imperative, which will fund its development of material designed to play on multiple platforms.
