MWC 2014: HTC says expect better looking, longer lasting smartwatches

HTC has confirmed it is indeed working on a new smartwatch and its aiming to fix the all the problems of wearable devices already on the market.HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang revealed in an interview with CNET, that its smartwatch would focus on improving battery efficiency. Also rather than operating on its own cellular radio it would, like many other smartwatches, tether to another device through Bluetooth.Wang also promised that HTC's offering will be more fashionable than many other wearable devices that lack a certain aesthetic appeal."People think watches are jewels," she said, making the point that any wearable would have to match that design standard."Previously HTC CEO Peter Chou said the company was looking into building an Android-powered smartwatch with a built-in camera. The HTC head honcho also said we may see their wearable by the second half of 2014, which still falls in line with Wang's new statement saying it will be here for Christmas.Broadening HorizonsIn another revealing tidbit Wang teased that HTC is looking into tablets as something we could see within the year as well. Earlier reports suggested that we might Google-HTC team up that would create a 7- or 10-inch Nexus tablet.We've got our fingers crossed for an exciting future for HTC beyond the smartphones. At MWC 2014, HTC announced two new phones the Desire 610 and 816.In a short while we will also see a brand new flagship handset, the HTC One 2 which is set for its own separate reveal on March 25.
