A powerful 8.2-magnitude earthquake struck off Chile’s Pacific coast on April 1, causing six-foot waves that generated a handful of tsunami warnings. Update: Five people are confirmed dead and three seriously injured, the governor of Iquique said.
The quake occurred at 6:46 p.m. local time about 60 miles northwest of Iquique, Chile, at a depth of 12.5 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
