BOX OFFICE: ‘Captain America’ Smashes April Opening Record With $90M To $95M Or Higher Estimate For Disney/Marvel

OPENING: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (DIS), smashes previous April opening records with estimated $90M to $95M or higher opening.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier will become the highest-grossing April opener ever with anywhere between $90M and $95M+ and other distributors have it even higher to $98M, destroying previous records set by Fast Five in 2011 by about $8M to $10M. It marks another monster hit for Marvel and Disney which is expected to take a very nice profit on the film directed by Joe and Anthony Russo which will already have made roughly $200M worldwide on an estimated $177.6M budget. It comes after tallying a whopping $10.2M on late nights Thursdays with shows that started at 8 p.m. The first Captain America opened to $65M when Paramount Pictures distributed it in 2o11. Captain America: The Winter Solider, with a 40% increase from that and besting the 30% increase that was witnessed between the first and second Thor openings, now holds April daily records, too, with an estimated Friday take of $35M to $38M. Comparatively, Fast Five tallied $34.4M and $86.2M in 2011.
The fan-crazed actioner opened in Russia and Australia and bows today in China.
