World Cup: Belgium v USA Draws Record Audience For Red Devils

Spoiler Alert if you haven’t seen matches…
After a grueling 90 minutes during which Team USA’s Tim Howard played what could surely go down as one of the best matches of his career, the Everton goalkeeper finally succumbed to Belgium’s Kevin De Bruyne, and later Romelu Lukaku. Despite a Julian Green goal at the 107th minute, Team USA was ultimately unable to fend off the Red Devils, losing 2-1. Played in the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador, this was one of the more exciting matches of the World Cup so far, regardless of which side you were on. ESPN is expected to report big numbers later today as its audience has continued to grow throughout the tournament, and especially when the Americans have been on the pitch. In the meantime, Belgian media reports that broadcasters VRT and RTBF hit a record high with a combined 4.02M viewers. VRT’s Sporza clocked 2.37M in Flanders for an 85.4 share while RTBF in Wallonia gathered 1.65M viewers and an 85.1 share. In the UK, an average 7.13M people tuned in to see Belgium-USA on BBC One for a 39.7 share. The match peaked at 9:40 PM local time with 8.6M viewers. There are no games today.
